Incision and Drainage of Floor of Mouth
A patient recently had a tooth extraction, developed an infection and was admitted to our facility for surgical treatment of the abscess. She underwent incision and drainage of right abscess of floor of the mouth. At surgery, the recently extracted tooth socket was identified. A periosteal elevator was used to lift the lingual mucosa off the alveolus adjacent to the extracted tooth and the abscess pocket was encountered. The elevated mucosa was bifurcated creating a drainage tract into the abscess. The abscess cavity was explored, incised and drained, and then irrigated with normal saline. We are not sure what body part value to assign for this surgery. What is the appropriate code assignment for this procedure? ...
