Effective October 1, 2004, subcategory V58.6, Long-term (current) drug use, has been expanded to collect information on the use of aspirin (V58.66) and insulin (V58.67). There are many reasons for the use of aspirin on a long-term basis. These reasons include pain relief, blood-clot prevention and arthritis. Code V58.66 is assigned regardless of the condition for which the patient is taking aspirin or the aspirin dosage, or whether the aspirin has been prescribed by the physician or the patient is taking the aspirin on his or her own initiative.
