In Memoriam: Mary Converse 1923-2003
Mary Converse was the founding editor of Coding Clinic for ICD-9-CM. She was a graduate of St. Scholastica College in Duluth, MN, and was credentialed as a Medical Records Librarian in 1946. As president of the American Medical Records Association, Ms. Converse challenged the membership to strive for excellence, and she herself set the standard during her 43 years as a medical records librarian and administrator at the University of Nebraska, the University of Maryland, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the American Hospital Association.
