Observation Codes V29 and V71
Category V29, Observation and evaluation of newborn and infants for suspected condition not found, was implemented in October 1992. A modification to the note for V29, effective October 1, 1994, was made to clarify that the use of this category is limited to the perinatal period. Category V29 was created for use in limited circumstances on records of otherwise healthy newborns who are observed for a suspected condition which is ruled out.
