Takotsubo Syndrome
Effective October 1, 2006, a new code has been created to uniquely identify Takotsubo syndrome. Takotsubo syndrome is a newly recognized reversibleform of left ventricular dysfunction seen in patients without underlying heart disease. The syndrome is usually precipitated by emotional or physiological stress with sudden onset of chest symptoms, electrocardiographic changes characteristic of myocardial ischemia, transient left ventricular dysfunction, low-grade troponin elevation, and insignificant coronary stenosis by angiogram. The syndrome was first reported in Asia.
