Transcatheter Therapy for Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding
Transcatheter therapy may be used to stabilize a patient with acute arterial upper gastrointestinal bleeding and to prepare a patient for possible elective surgery. Transcatheter therapy methods for acute arterial bleeding due to gastric or duodenal ulcer may involve the use of one or both of the following procedures:
Following a selective arteriography, 88.47, to locate the source of the bleeding, a selective intra-arterial infusion of a vasoconstrictor (vasopressin) to control gastric or duodenal artery bleeding, 99.29.
Note: In accordance with Coding Clinic, First Quarter, 2000 transcatheter embolization is coded to 99.29.
