Other and Unspecified Adverse Effect of Drug
Effective October 1, 2006, code 995.2, Unspecified adverse effect of drug, medicinal and biological substance has been expanded to provide codes to distinguish between allergic reactions and other adverse effects of drugs. These codes should not be used in the inpatient setting. Their use in the outpatient setting is limited to only those cases where no sign or symptom is documented. If the patient is exhibiting symptoms or signs, the code for that condition should be assigned. An additional code from the E930 through E949 series is also assigned to indicate the responsible drug or biologic substance. 995...
