Vaginal and Vulvar Carcinoma in Situ
Effective October 1, 2007, code 233.3, Carcinoma in situ of other and unspecified female genital organs, has been expanded to describe vaginal carcinoma in situ (vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia III) and vulvar carcinoma in situ (vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia III). These new codes parallel code 233.1, Carcinoma in situ of cervix uteri. Vaginal carcinoma in situ or vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia III (VAIN III) is a preinvasive condition, arising from the squamous epithelium. The condition is a precursor to cancer.
