July 2008 page 3 Coding Communication:Cardiac MRI The Radiology/Diagnostic Radiology (Diagnostic Imaging) section, Heart subsection, which includes codes that report cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, has been revamped and expanded for 2008. Codes 75552-75556 have been deleted and replaced with codes 75557-75564. Unlike traditional magnetic resonance imaging, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging provides a physiologic evaluation of cardiac function and routinely requires physician input during the exam while the patient is in the scanner.
