Hernias result from the protrusion of tissue or an organ through a weakened area of tissue or abdominal muscle. Several hernia repair techniques are available for correcting this problem. A herniorrhaphy may be performed by the conventional "open" method or the "laparoscopic" method; hernioplasty may be performed using mesh, wire, or other prostheses...
