December 2019 page 3 New Extended Ophthalmoscopy Services Codes Due to changes in clinical practice, two new codes (92201, 92202) have been established and codes 92225 and 92226 have been deleted in the Ophthalmoscopy subsection in the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) 2020 code set. The new codes describe extended types of ophthalmoscopy examinations that are not the same as routine use of an ophthalmoscope during a normal comprehensive eye examination. This type of extended examination is performed for relatively serious conditions and includes specific documentation requirements.
