November 2012 page 10 Paracentesis: Anterior Chamber of the Eye (65800-65815) Paracentesis, also known as an anterior chamber tap, is a surgical procedure involving the passage of a cannula, needle, or other hollow instrument used to remove anterior chamber fluid (aqueous) through the cornea for analysis or to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP). The CPT code set that reports paracentesis procedures for eyes has been revised for 2013. Because the description for code 65800 was revised to include the components of code 65805, this latter code (65805) was deleted.
