Different codes from the neurology and neuromuscular procedures and physical medicine subsections of the medicine section were being used to report motion analysis studies. However, these codes did not accurately reflect the services performed, and communicating the procedures to third-party payers was problematic. Therefore, codes 96000-96004 were added to provide more specific codes to report all of the motion analysis procedures that are performed in motion analysis laboratories.
