CPT Knowledgebase - Apr 24, 2017

An amplified probe test for influenza types A & B is ordered and usually reports a separate result for each type. If the test is run in rapid mode, however, it will stop reporting results as soon as it returns a positive result for either type, even if the other types result is pending. The laboratory professional has no control over the number of types reported if she/he chooses to run the test in rapid mode. If the rapid test only returns a single result, should it be reported with code 87501 or 87502?
