Is it appropriate for each of two orthopedic surgeons to append modifier 62 to codes 22612 (REVISED IN 2012) and 63047 if they perform the surgery concurrently on opposite sides of the midline? Neither of the surgeons would be considered an approach surgeon but rather would be performing identical parts of the decompression and fusion on opposite sides.
