CPT Knowledgebase - Jul 17, 2017

The Introduction to the CPT 2017 code set states that a unit of time is attained when the mid-point is passed, and that the standards shall apply to time measurement, unless there are code or code-rangespecific instructions in guidelines, parenthetical instructions, or code descriptors to the contrary. The specific guidelines within the Spine and Spinal Cord Injection, Drainage, or Aspiration subsection explain a different type of time. Therefore, if a catheter is placed one day and removed the next calendar day, regardless of when it was removed or the total length of time it was in place, would it be appropriate to report codes 62324-62327?
