What is the meaning of "complete" within the range of codes 93875 (DELETED IN 2012)-93971? While most of the codes have a secondary code to report the performance of a unilateral or limited bilateral procedure, it is not clear how to report performance of a limited or unilateral procedure for the non-invasive physiologic studies (i.e. codes 93875, 93965). Generally, CPT advice for reporting performance of a reduced service is to append the modifier 52, Reduced Services. There is a vignette that states when reporting 93875, "the influence of compression maneuvers on blood flow velocity can be measured, if applicable, with the procedure being reported on the opposite side". Is 93875, Non-invasive physiologic studies of extracranial arteries, complete bilateral study (i.e. periorbital flow direction with arterial compression, ocular pneumoplethysmography, Doppler ultrasound spectral analysis), or 93965, Non-invasive physiologic studies of extremity veins, complete bilateral study (i.e. Doppler waveform analysis with responses to compression and other maneuvers, phleborheography, impedance plethysmography), appropriate to report for a limited or unilateral study, if this is commonly performed, and would it be appropriate to append modifier 52 to report this service?
