The parenthetical note following code 46250, Hemorrhoidectomy, external, 2 or more columns/groups, instructs coders to report the unlisted code 46999, Unlisted procedure, anus, for an EXTERNAL hemorrhoidectomy, of a single column/group. If the physician excises an INTERNAL hemorrhoidectomy of a single column, should the same unlisted code 46999 be reported since no external hemorrhoid was excised, only internal, or would code 46255, Hemorrhoidectomy, internal and external, single column/group; be appropriate to report?
