A patient presents for lower extremity revascularization of occlusive disease in the femoral artery. A flow-limiting atherosclerotic lesion of 80% is reduced to 0% with the placement of a stent. Follow-up angiography after stent placement reveals an arteriovenous malformation in the popliteal artery, which is also treated with a stent. Would it be appropriate to separately report a code for the additional stent placement to treat the arteriovenous malformation in the popliteal artery, or is this service an included component of the primary stent placement in the femoral-popliteal territory for occlusive disease procedure?
