A physician or qualified health care professional (QHP) is providing topical immunotherapy for the treatment of alopecia areata. On the initial visit, the patient is sensitized to the topical immunotherapy by the application of a higher concentration of the solution to the patients inner arm by the physician or QHP. On the second visit, based on the sensitization response, the physician or QHP determines the appropriate lower concentration to apply to the patients scalp, and applies this initial dose. The patient returns for monitoring of any reaction a few days following the initial scalp application. If the appropriate response is noted, the physician or QHP prescribes the solution for the patient to continue for daily home use. If the response is inappropriate (eg, too vigorous or too minimal), the concentration may be altered and a new solution concentration is applied by the physician or QHP during the follow-up visit. What is the appropriate procedure code to report the in-office application of topical immunotherapy?
