Our physicians are on-call for consults in the overnight for the emergency department (ED) and hospital stat consultations (stroke, seizures, etc.). Sometimes they are called to see the patient in the late evening and their time may continue past midnight. When a service is initiated late in the day and the service time lasts past midnight, can the time spent after midnight be accounted for in the date of service (DOS) for the previous day when reporting by time?
