On October 1, 2015, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will adopt the tenth revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) to be followed by all health care providers, health plans, and health care clearinghouses that are covered by the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
