For the past thirty-one (31) years, we have learned and used ICD-9-CM when assigning diagnosis codes for our providers. The reason why we are moving to ICD-10 is because ICD-9 is old and many medical conditions do not have a code assigned to it because none are available. When coding for emergency room visits, it is frustrating trying to find a diagnosis code that doesn’t exist or trying to find a code that matches what the doctor documented. It's now time for ICD-10.
