Summary: Lyme disease is one of the key tick-borne diseases that pose important public health threats-especially during the warmer months when ticks are prevalentLyme disease is caused by Borrelia Burgdorferi, the bacterium which is spread by the bite of a black-legged deer tick. Each year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) receive reports of approximately 30,000 cases of Lyme disease from the various state health departments and the District of Columbia.
