Scenario: Patient with sickle-cell disease presents to the practice with severe abdominal pain, abdominal wall rigidity, distension and diffuse tenderness. The physician notes an enlarged spleen on examination and diagnoses sickle-cell thalassemia. She then admits the patient to the hospital.
