Mind your modifiers: KX uses expand from therapy and DME to skin substitutes, MRIs and shockwave

Many orthopedic practices are accustomed to using the KX modifier on their therapy claims as well as durable medical equipment (DME), but be aware that Medicare contractors have begun using the KX modifier for services such as skin substitutes, imaging services and some types of extracorporeal shockwave therapy.
