MedPAC Imaging Plan Meets With Skepticism

The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission ran into stiff opposition from doctors for its plan to set national standards for physicians who interpret diagnostic imaging studies. At a March 17 hearing of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, cardiologist Kim Allen Williams argued that restricting imaging "runs counter to" moves to improve quality of patient care. And subcommittee Chair Nancy Johnson (R-CT) expressed reluctance to add more requirements to the already "structure-heavy" Medicare program. ...
