Appendix J of the CPT 2006 book included guidelines for how many EDX tests a physician can provide in different cases. The guidelines were developed by the American Academy of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine in 2002. For example, for a patient with "pain, numbness or tingling (unilateral)," the limit is one needle electromyography, three motor nerve conduction studies with or without f/wave, four sensory NCS or two H-reflex tests...
