Physician Notes: AIC Thresholds Go Up in 2020

Reminder: CMS updates the AIC threshold amounts annually. If you’re filing an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) request, expect the amount that remains in controversy to rise on Jan. 1. Currently, the amount in controversy (AIC) stands at $160 for ALJ requests and will go up to $170 in 2020, according to a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) notice. For reviews requested in the federal district court, the AIC will increase from $1,630 this year to $1,670 in 2020.
