Physicians Notes: AMA Vows to Bring Back Liability Limits

The recent Senate vote to doom a bill that limits physicians' malpractice to $250,000 worth of non-economic damages isn't the end of the battle, vows the American Medical Association. The AMA and allies will keep fighting to cap doctors' damages in the hopes of bringing down malpractice insurance costs and keeping doctors from fleeing the business. Some 19 states face a liability crisis in which doctors are retiring early, discontinuing high-risk services, or "fleeing," the AMA says. At least one-third of Physicians Coder say they sometimes do not discuss useful treatments with patients because of perceived coverage...
