Coding Clinic, Third Quarter 2020, page 8, advised to assign code I97.89 , Other postprocedural complications and disorders of the circulatory system, not elsewhere classified, for a small type II endoleak, which the surgeon documented as expected, based on preoperative radiological imaging. Coding professionals are questioning this advice since the provider documented the endoleak as expected, not a complication. Furthermore, the endoleak was found during surgery rather than post procedure and code I97.89 describes a postprocedural complication rather than an intraoperative complication. We are asking that the Coding Clinic Editorial Advisory Board revisit this advice. ...
