HCPCS Codes C1820 and C1822

The Central Office on HCPCS recently received several questions regarding how to report HCPCS codes C1820, Generator, neurostimulator (implantable), non-high-frequency with rechargeable battery and charging system, and C1822, Generator, neurostimulator (implantable), high frequency, with rechargeable battery and charging system. The following information will hopefully clarify and define how to appropriately report these two HCPCS codes. In the January 2016 Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) Update, the code descriptor for HCPCS code C1820 was revised to include the words “non-high-frequency”, however, according to Transmittal 3478, Change Request 9557, effective date April 1, 2016, the code descriptor for C1820 was...
