New codes for the reporting of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD)
The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently issued two new codes for the reporting of the insertion of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator. Hospitals are instructed by CMS to discontinue reporting CPT code, 33240, Insertion of single or dual chamber pacing cardioverter-defibrillator pulse generator, and code 33249, Insertion or repositioning of electrode lead(s) for single or dual chamber pacing cardioverter-defibrillator and insertion of pulse generator.
