New CPT code for drug-induced sleep endoscopy

Effective January 1, 2022, the American Medical Association (AMA) released a new code to capture Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy (DISE) - CPT code 42975, Drug-induced sleep endoscopy, with dynamic evaluation of velum, pharynx, tongue base, and larynx for evaluation of sleep-disordered breathing, flexible, diagnostic. DISE is not a new technique and was previously reported with CPT codes 31575, Laryngoscopy, flexible; diagnostic, and 31622, Bronchoscopy, rigid or flexible, including fluoroscopic guidance, when performed; diagnostic, with cell washing, when performed (separate procedure), or with CPT code 92502, Otolaryngologic examination under general anesthesia.
