Smoking and tobacco-use cessation services

CMS has determined that there is adequate evidence to conclude that smoking and tobacco use cessation counseling is reasonable and necessary for patients with diseases or adverse health effects that have been found by the U.S. Surgeon General to be linked to tobacco use, or individuals that are taking a therapeutic agent whose metabolism or dosing is affected by tobacco use as based on FDA-approved information. Individuals will be covered under Medicare Part B if certain coverage conditions are met. Payment is also subject to certain frequency and other limitations.
