Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor – Procedure 2

The same patient returned for a stage 2 transurethral resection bladder tumor (TURBT), 3 months later for additional resection of papillary urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. A rigid cystoscope with a 26 Fr continuous sheath and visual obturator was inserted into the urethra and advanced towards the bladder. Friable tissue was visualized at the resection site and diffuse papillary tumor was noted at the right and left lateral walls, and within the diverticulum of the posterior wall and bladder dome. The tumor (large >10 cm) encompassed the entire bladder. TURBT was performed followed by button vaporization of the bladder and of the bladder neck tumor. Evacuation of the specimen was performed.
