Correction First Quarter 2023, Question 2: Necrotizing Soft Tissue Debridement
A patient with a history of colostomy closure and resultant chronic abdominal wall infection with sinus tract, presented for wound exploration and sinus tract excision. An elliptical incision encompassing the sinus tract located at the inferior aspect of a low midline incision was incised using a scalpel. The incision was extended sharply through the subcutaneous tissue until fascia was encountered. At this point, the sinus tract was visualized, which could be traced down to the peritoneum, along with visualization of exposed mesh. The entire extent of the sinus tract and attached mesh were explanted as one at the base of the tract. Hemostasis was obtained and the fascia was closed. The wound was packed loosely and left open.
