Ehrlichiosis

Prior to October 1, 2000, Ehrlichiosis was coded to 082.8, Other specified tick-borne rickettsioses. Three new codes have been developed to specifically identify Ehrlichiosis. Human ehrlichiosis can range from inapparent infection to a mild viral-like illness, to severe life threatening disease. Symptoms develop 3-16 days after being bitten by an infected tick. Common symptoms are malaise, confusion, severe headache, muscle and joint aches, nausea and vomiting, chills, cough and lack of appetite.
