Fluorescence Vascular Angiography
Under “Monitoring of Physiologic Systems” a new function/device value and a new qualifier have been created as follows. Function/DeviceQualifierS-Vascular Perfusion H Indocyanine Green Dye The new values are available for the cardiac, gastrointestinal, and skin and breast body systems, and are assigned to identify intraoperative fluorescence vascular angiography, for example, SPY angiography. SPY angiography assesses perfusion in tissue grafts and transfers, to determine the likelihood that the graft will take. It is also used to assess perfusion in various gastrointestinal, skin wound, and breast procedures to ensure adequate blood flow and patent anastomoses, for example of coronary artery...

Article Overview
This article covers an ICD-10-PCS update involving monitoring of physiologic systems and the identification of intraoperative fluorescence vascular angiography. It explains the general clinical contexts in which the new values are used, the body systems involved, and the role of the procedure coding guidance that applies to this type of perfusion assessment. The article is relevant to inpatient coders, CDI staff, and others who work with ICD-10-PCS procedure reporting.
Why This Topic Matters
Coding of newer imaging- and monitoring-related procedures can change how inpatient procedures are reported. Understanding this update helps coders recognize when the revised ICD-10-PCS values apply and avoid adding unnecessary codes from other sections.
