Infrarenal Para-Aortic Paraganglioma with Excision

A patient with a known history of a carotid body tumor is admitted for surgical treatment of a left infrarenal para-aortic mass consistent with a paraganglioma. During the procedure, an incision was made in the midline above and below the umbilicus. The peritoneal cavity was entered and the mass was found to be adjacent to the aorta and inferior to the left renal hilum.
