Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assistance
A premature newborn, who was delivered at 34 weeks of gestation, developed apnea spells, and required neutrally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA) for respiratory support. NAVA was provided continuously for less than 96 hours and the patient was weaned to RAM cannula oxygen delivery on day 7 and room air on day 8. What is the appropriate root operation for NAVA? Would the need for intubation in conjunction with NAVA affect the root operation?
