Resection of Lymph Node Chains
Please clarify advice published in Coding Clinic, First Quarter 2016, page 30, that used the root operation “Resection” for removal of entire chains of axillary lymph nodes at level 1, level 2 and parts of level 3. Based on the removal of “parts” of level 3, it appears that two codes should be assigned, one using the root operation “Resection” for levels 1 and 2, and “Excision” for the removal of parts of level 3.
