Question: May CPT code 91038, Esophageal function test, gastroesophageal reflux test with nasal catheter intraluminal impedance electrode(s) placement, recording, analysis and interpretation; prolonged (greater than 1 hour, up to 24 hours), be used to report laryngopharyngeal pH monitoring?
Answer: No. It would not be appropriate to report code 91038 for laryngopharyngeal pH monitoring. CPT code 42999, Unlisted procedure, pharynx, adenoids, or tonsils, would be used. Codes 91034 and 91035 which represent esophageal pH monitoring would also not be appropriate for laryngopharyngeal pH monitoring.
