January 2020 page 6 Preperitoneal Pelvic Packing (49013, 49014) The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) 2020 code set includes two new codes in the Digestive System/Abdomen, Peritoneum, and Omentum/Incision subsection to report preperitoneal pelvic packing for hemorrhage associated with pelvic trauma (49013) and re-exploration with removal of packing and repacking, when performed (49014). In addition, an instructional parenthetical note following code 49002, Reopening of recent laparotomy, was added directing users to report code 49014 for re-exploration of a pelvic wound for removal of packing, including repacking when performed.
