Transcatheter Cardiovascular Procedures (February 2013)
February 2013 pages 3-6 Transcatheter Cardiovascular Procedures For 2013, a new subheading entitled "Transcatheter Thrombolytic Infusion" was added to the Transcatheter Procedures subsection in the Cardiovascular System section of the CPT code set. This addition includes guidelines and new codes (37211-37214), which replaced deleted thrombolytic infusion codes 37201 and 37209, as well as the creation of code 37197 to report the services that were previously reported with codes 37203 and 75961. Article Overview
This article explains a set of 2013 CPT changes and related reporting guidance for transcatheter cardiovascular procedures. It is aimed at coders, billing staff, and clinicians who need to understand which services are bundled or separately reported across several interventional vascular categories. The discussion covers CPT code additions and deletions, procedure grouping by arterial versus venous treatment, and general reporting considerations for related imaging, access, and catheter services.
Why This Topic Matters
These updates affect how common vascular interventions are reported in CPT and help reduce incorrect coding when multiple endovascular services occur in the same session or treatment course.
