The 2001 CPT code book includes additional codes that may be appropriate alternatives for an influenza enzyme immunoassay. CPT code 87400 is described as a "multiple step EIA for Influenza A or B, each." We perform the Biota Flu OIA assay in our office, which is an optical immunoassay read with direct optical observation. May we report code 87400 for this immunoassay? Are there other codes that would be appropriate to report?
