The code descriptor for code 64714, Neuroplasty, major peripheral nerve, arm or leg, open; lumbar plexus, implies that this procedure is performed on a singular major peripheral nerve: the lumbar plexus. From an anatomical perspective, the lumbar plexus consists of several different nerves, including but not limited to the ilioinguinal, obturator, and femoral nerves. From a CPT coding perspective, may this code be reported per nerve within the lumbar plexus? Is code 64714 inherently unilateral?
