CPT coding guidelines for lens extraction procedures (eg, code 66840) indicate that the use of viscoelastic agents, enzymatic zonulysis, use of other pharmacologic agents, and subconjunctival or sub-tenon injections are included as part of the code for the extraction of lens. Does this include pharmacologic agents such as intravenous antibiotics or pain medications, or may they be reported separately with the lens extraction codes?
