The guidelines for intraservice time for moderate (conscious) sedation (99151-99153, 99155-99157) in the CPT 2022 code set state [i]ncludes ordering and/or administering the initial and subsequent doses of sedating agents. In order to report moderate (conscious) sedation services, is the physicians or other QHPs presence with the patient not required at the initial administration of the sedating agents, as long as he or she ordered the sedating agents? Or must the physician or other QHP be present with the patient for the entire intraservice time?
