It is understood that patients who are under moderate sedation maintain control of their airways and can breathe without support. Are the moderate sedation codes 99151-99157 appropriate to report when a patient has a tracheostomy but is conscious and able to respond purposefully to verbal commands and/or light tactile stimulation during the procedure, hence requires sedation for a procedure?
